Volunteer - Adults

Volunteers help in many departments within HSGS! From dog walking, helping at special events, assisting in the thrift store, cleaning and caring for our feline, canine and small furries, providing front desk support, landscaping/facility maintenance tasks, HSGS volunteers do it all! 

We welcome kind hearted individuals of all ability levels who are ready to help make a difference at HSGS!

Basics of volunteering:

Volunteer Requirements: 

 Adult Volunteer (18 years or older): 

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer without supervision under the Adult Volunteer program at HSGS. Training’s are required to work with animals and assist in certain departments. 

On Site opportunities:

  • Exercising & socializing adoptable dogs

  • Assisting with Doggy Playgroups

  • Caring for cats, kittens and small animals

  • Sorting donations & assisting thrift store

  • Front desk support

  • Pet Food Pantry assistance

  • Laundry/ general cleaning duties

    Off Site opportunities:

  • Helping at offsite special events & community outreach

  • Transporting animals

  • Post adoption support

    How do I get started? 

    1. The first step to joining the team is to fill out the volunteer application listed below. Please be sure to included what interests you and what your availability looks like!

    2. After we receive your volunteer application the volunteer coordinator will reach out to you to schedule a time to get you started and show you the ropes!

    What do we ask of our volunteers? 

    1. Support. Support our staff, other volunteers, our philosophies, mission, and procedures inside and outside of the Humane Society for Greater Savannah.  

    2. Honesty. Be honest and realistic with yourself and us concerning your needs, goals, availability, and capability.  

    3. Commitment. Please consider volunteering a serious commitment. Your presence is needed and very much appreciated.  

    4. Knowledge. Learn while you are here! The more training you receive the more skills and experience you will gain which will enable you to participate in more volunteer tasks.  

    5. Communicate. Let us know what is working and what is not. We are always striving for improvements, and we need your input! Report any concerns or comments to the volunteer coordinator so needs may be assessed and addressed.
