It's Hurricane Season, do you have an evacuation plan for your pet?

It is essential to plan ahead for your family and your pet in case of an emergency. Start by deciding where you will go. Family or friends are good options. If necessary, identify a city or town outside the threatened area and select a hotel there. Click for a list of hotels that accept pets (from multiple cities).

As part of your evacuation plan you should have the following items ready or easily at hand in case of a hurricane, fire, or other emergency situation:

  • Ample supply of food and bottled water
  • Food and water bowls
  • Medication (heartworm and flea preventative, and other medications your per needs)
  • Carrier or crate
  • Blankets and towels
  • Pet first aid kit (can be purchased at pet stores)
  • Keep a copy of your pets veterinary record and emergency contact number
  • Carry a photo of your pet in case you get separated
  • Get your pet MICROCHIPPED!!! (We do this at the shelter and it can help reunite you and your pet if you get separated.)
