One female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in just 7 years:
  • A female cat can produce 3 litters a year.
  • There are 4-6 kittens in an average litter.
  • A female cat can produce her first litter at 4 months.
  • The gestation period for cats is only 2 months.

One female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in just 6 years:

  • There are 6-12 puppies per litter for larger breeds and 4-8 puppies per litter for smaller breeds.
  • A female dog can produce her first litter at 7 months.
  • The gestation period for dogs is only 2 months.

An estimated 4-6 million dogs and cats are euthanized (put to sleep) in shelters each year.  Millions more are abandoned, only to suffer from illness or injury before dying.

As many as 25% of dogs entering shelters each year are purebreds.

Chatham County has an ever growing problem with pet overpopulation. Fortunately, there are 2 low cost options to have your pets spayed/neutered.  SNAC (Spay Neuter Alliance & Clinic) is located in Ridgeland, SC, but we are a drop-off/pick-up point for them.  Call them @ 843-645-2500 for pricing and to schedule an appointment.
