We adopted Tramp (formerly known as Muffles, and Taffy) in April 2008, after we lost our sweet old dog Nephie. Tramp had been in the shelter for over several months, we were told because of his exuberance when people came to veiw dogs. Tramp has turned out to be a wonderful part of our family. He is a dear friend to our (rescued) Chihauahua Maximus, and an annoying younger "brother" to our cat. Best of all, he is our 13 month old son's best friend. He lets our son grab, pull, climb, kiss and hug all over him. Although he looks like The Tramp (thus the name), we jokingly call him Nana from Peter Pan, because that is the role he has assumed with our child. Tramp is smart, loving, cuddly and just about the best family dog we could have hoped for. We are so grateful to Savannah Humane Society for taking in, and caring for Tramp until we came to adopt him. He has found a forever home with us!

Belle (Bailey) is one of the best dogs ever! She is the biggest lap dog.
It has been a wonderful couple of weeks getting to know her. She has good manners, she doesn't hog the bed (much),but she is really a couch hog! HAHA, she waits patiently for dinner, and loves her tennis ball!
She has adjusted well to her new home with us, and we are looking forward to many happy years with her!
She is well loved!

Hi,
Rascal (Smokie) has had a busy five weeks. He learned a new name and comes when called. (Except when it is time to go in the kennel.) He's started training classes and knows sit and stay. He knows not to come in the kitchen or run out the front door. He discovered the doggy door on the second day and has since chewed the corners off the flap. He's stopped jumping on people and pulling on his leash. I think he has learn that there will be more food and water coming, because he used to eat and drink so fast he would choke. He's a very good timekeeper... he is never more that 10 mins off our schedule when he starts his demands for food. (He has also leaned that if he keeps barking at me, I won't put the food bowl on the floor.) I LOVES to eat everything. I have forcibly removed from his jaws worms, frogs, rocks, shingles, and other odd things he has dug up.
He is much easier to get along with since he was neutered. Any initial reservations that January (Paris) had about letting him in the family faded along with whatever hormones faded from his system. They are best friends now, and I'm a little jealous that he is stealing her attention from me. Also, when I let him out of his kennel, he greets her before he greets me. He follows her lead about everything. If she goes out he doggy dog, then so does he. If she whines for their evening walk, then he stands next to her. If she takes a nap in the back room, then he is napping next to her.
And playtime... my house may not survive it. Last week, January charged in the doggy door, scrambled under the dining room table, and ended with a gracefully leap onto the loveseat without dropping her tennis ball. Rascal was in pursuit and jumped on top of her. She bucked up which catapulted him against the window, in turn knocking the blinds down. He bounced off the window, landed on the carpet, and jumped back on top of her and the blinds. She slid under his legs, under the coffee table, around the dining room table and out the doggy door with him not far behind. I didn't even have time to put the remote down. I got up to check on them. They were running laps around the back yard.
He's adjusted really well and mainly gets fussed at when he tries to eat house plants, flip-flops, and dirt. When he misbehaves, I remember that before January became the angel she is today, she ripped up my carpet, gnawed on my window sill to sawdust, and demolished my favorite shoes that I had since college.
See you at the Mutt Strut !!
Thank you,
Sheila Williams

We wanted to share pictures of our newest family member, Sookie (formerly Chicklett). She may have black fur but she sure knows how to light up a room:) She is a ball of energy and entertainment, we love her so much! This past weekend she took her first trip to the Smoky Mountains with us. Sookie is a natural born hiker! She is growing fast and has made fast sisters of our other family members (our 2 dogs and cat). They are a happy family and it would not be the same without Sookie! She is a happy puppy and we are so glad that she picked us as her new family!
Thanks

Hi!
I'm Boo. I was adopted on 30Sep2009 by my forever mom Linda. We're doing great together, and I've sent a photo to show you I'm settling in well. Mom thought I might be a little tense on my first day, harf, harf! As you can see, I'm reasonably relaxed.
The food is yummy here and I'm having a lot of fun sniffing around in my new yard because at night 'possums roam around. I think they smell really interesting, though I haven't seen any up close yet. Mom keeps me on leash at night 'cause of all the night people. There are lots of squirrels and birds in the daytime and it's all very exciting.
Just thought you'd like to know that you've made another successful adoption. I'm very happy here and Mom says she is so glad I'm with her. I give her lots of kisses.
Thanks for everything!
Love,
Boo

Here is a photo of Danica Roth who was adopted on September 11th. She was given a September 19th birthday but may be a few months younger.
She is extremely sweet, affectionate and happy girl. She is very smart and responds well to training. We are still working on her "coming" when she is outside since she is a very intensive hunter (serious about squirrels). Our Vet feels she has some hound in her...and she is always pointing (at first I thought her paw was bothering her...silly me)
She is high energy and loves to go to the Dog Park everyday...and already has many friends. She is a VERY fast runner and very social.
We're lucky to have found her since she is perfect for us ...She looks a lot like our last rescue dog ( a very well mixed choc/black lab, etc) who died last May.

Seanna is doing great! Fitting in perfectly, loves my 2 year old. How
long before I can run with her and let her play at 100%? (she was just
spayed on 24Sep, still has her staples). Thanks! By the way, how is
her brother doing, Roshack I think. Last question: she still has a
funky cough/sneeze thing going on, is that still the kennel cough and
how much longer will it last.

Hello! My name is Sherri Wright and my husband, Kris, and I just
adopted buddy not too long ago. We think he is doing fine here. We've
taken him to the beach once and he absolutely loved it! He is very good
with other people and likes to play with other dogs as well. He gets
out of the house quite a bit because we take him out once every couple
of hours. Or when we get bored of just sitting around, we take him for
a walk. But when the weather isn't too nice outside, we make sure he
has pleanty of toys to play with. We've already had to replace 2 tennis
balls. Ha ha. I fully believe he has adjusted nicely to his new home
with us, and he has started learning simple commands like sit, stay, and
down. He also listens when we tell him "out of the kitchen" while we're
cooking. He is a very good and loving dog and we are grateful for him.
And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Now that three weeks have passed, we thought we would share with you how we all are adjusting to family life together. Barkley (formerly Kahlua) and Harper (formerly Amaretto) are growing and learning. They love long walks in Forsyth Park and sitting while we have coffee. We've gone to three weeks of obedience classes now, and we are proud to report that they sit, down and stand on command (most of the time), but we're still a little sketchy on "come." We've had very few accidents, and they both now go to the door and stand when they need to go out or just want to romp outside. They haven't quite learned how to share toys, yet, but part of their play with one another is teasing each other with toys. No furniture or shoes have been destroyed (thank you, Bitter Apple). They are now sleeping about five hours a night before they need to go out - so our sleep is getting better, too.
Here's a few pictures. We took them with a phone camera, so they aren't the best quality, but you can see how they are doing. We'll keep you posted.

Hey! It's Winky here. It has been about four months since I left the
Humane Society and I am loving life! A few weeks after I left, I moved
to Houston. I slept in the backseat for most of the 18 hours, but
checked up on the chauffer occasionally. Now I have lots of toys and
room to run around. I try to play with the other cats in the house, but
they're old and grouchy and don't understand my games. During the day I
am busy moving things around and sleeping. I have taken up a night
shift as a hairdresser/masseur and am really progressing. I like to
show off my new hairdo that the vet suggested. The vet is nice (most of
the time) and he says that I'm his best patient! In my free time I like
to practice soccer (I'm keeping my amateur status for the 2012
Olympics), play hide-and-seek, explore, and smell things (I often have a
whistle in my nose-everyone says it's cute but I think it's pretty
annoying). I hope all of my friends at the Humane Society are doing
well. I h ave to go now; there is a suspicious shoe on the floor!

Hi,
My name is Petey and I want to tell you about the wonderful new life I have. My name used to be Bruno, but my new mommy and daddy thought Petey suited me a little better. I like it too! I'm so happy since I got my new home and my new best friend, Frankie. We're a lot alike.
Since I was adopted in July, I've had an amazing adventure. I've gone out on our boat and watched dolphins and seagulls, I've canoed to Little Tybee Island where I chase birds, swim, and find crabs under dead trees. I've traveled to Charleston and walked around downtown and got to stay in a nice hotel (I was so well-behaved, my new parents were really impressed :-) I visited Wormsloe Historic Plantation and walked the hiking trail. I saw some deer and got super excited! On my first trip downtown I got to eat at Blowin' Smoke BBQ and got my own beefy bone...NICE!
My new friend Frankie and I love to cuddle and play together in our backyard. He lost his best friend Maestro in June, so he's very happy to have me around. My new mom and dad love me so much. We hope more people will adopt great pets like me from the Humane Society. I really needed a family, but then I found out, they needed me too.
Love,
Petey

I brought Holly home August 15. I wanted to make sure she would get along with Max, who I adopted from the Humane Society in January 2007. Max and I met Holly at your facility, and it was a little dicey at first. But we all came home together, and the two of them are doing great. All the little initial issues between them have been resolved, and they play together very nicely. They both bring joy to me daily!
Thanks.

Friends at Savannah Humane Society~
Chance the dog formerly known as Willy is happy and healthy in his new home! He loves going on runs, chewing a good rawhide and laying on cool tile floors! He has grown accostomed to sleeping in a crate but LOVES to be with his Mom and Dad when we are home! His favorite movie is "Homeward Bound"...of course, that's his namesake! He actually sat and watched a few minutes of it, it was amazing! He had his first vet visit and no issues. He has welcomed friends over to the house and has learned to bark at the mailman ! Poor mailman. He loves his new home and his new family loves him. We only hope that all of his 4-legged friends are able to make other families as happy as Chance has made us! =)
The first picture is Chance just hanging out. The second is him watching Homeward Bound!

Hello! This is just an update to let y'all know that Donald and Daisy (formerly Cafe and Inn, adopted in January 2009) recently were voted in the top 13 and are going to be in the Savannah Morning News' Pet Calendar! They had a photo shoot with Anglea Hopper a couple weeks ago! Needless to say they are being spoiled and I, as well as the kitties, are enjoying every minute! :) I have a few pictures to show you how big they have grown! :) Please look for them in the calendar due out this month! :) Thanks again!!

Here is a picture of Dew- I adopted her on August 1, 2009. Her new name is AVA. And here's my short story: (FROM GAIL FELTON HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC)
My Cocker Spaniel Alex died in March of this year. I was so thankful to have her for 15 years. I really did not want another pet after that...and I thought it would be at least five years or more before I got a another dog. However, I just happened to be looking at types of dogs online and came across a picture of Dew on the internet. I thought she was the cutest pup I had ever seen. After inquiring about her from Carol at the Humane Society of Savannah, I knew I wanted to come see her in person. When Dew was first put into my arms, I actually cried tears of joy...she was so adorable and sweet. We played together in a room at the shelter and then I watched her interact with other dogs. Needless to say, my mind was made up and we went home that day. Dew has been renamed Ava, after the movie actress Ava Gardner. I think she is as gorgeous as her. Although, I have only had Ava a week, we are getting to know one another and enjoying time together. She is a blessing in my life. I look forward to many years with her in my life.

Remy is about 2.5 months old and she is extremely intelligent. She is doing great with housetraining but does even better when awarded with a treat. She is very playful and gets along great with other animals. She is very small but acts like she is not when playing with other big dogs. She is very vocal but does not really bark instead it seems more like talking. She enjoys attention and likes to nibble on things but we have been successful in focusing her biting to toys only. Remy is very obedient for a puppy and I'm so happy I chose to adopt her!!

Last year in June 2008, I decided to stop by the shelter to look for a
companion for my Spaniel mix Gina (who I also got at the Chatham Humane
Society) predicting my busy and job filled future after graduating from
SCAD. There I found Sheba, an adorable and shy puppy Husky mix. She
ended up being much more of a handful than I expected, but only in the
best way! At home she came out of her shell and became the bouncy,
happy individual that she is. She became more of a
companion for myself than for Gina, but she is just a bundle of fun!
She has all the positives of the Husky breed and is so well natured.
Sheba loves to give everyone kisses and to talk back to her 'mom' (me of
course). She sure makes some funny howls, growls and barks when she
wants something! I swear she'll start speaking full sentences one day.
Sheba has come to visit the staff, including attending the Doggie
Carnival last May, but has now moved back to Michigan with me
permanently. Thank you so much to everyone - she has grown into a
wonderful dog! I've attached quite a few pictures of her, I hope
there's room for them! :)

We wanted to let you know how our adoption of our new kitty Savannah went. (I attached 2 pictures so you can see how happy she is!)
We had two cats and one passed away recently, so we wanted to get a new one pretty quickly so the other cat Cleo wouldn't be lonely. We visited the Humane Society and spent time with a few cats over a couple of visits. The day we met Savannah (now called Dribble because she loves to lick and drools a little when she gets excited) we knew right away that she was the cat for us. She was sweet, cuddly, calm, and beautiful. We filled out adoption papers on the spot. Dribble has been with us for almost a week now and she fit right in immediately. Cleo welcomed her, and though she was a bit hesitant at first, they seem to be pretty comfortable with eachother already. She purrs all the time, and loves to sit on her window seat and look outside. She'll take a lap whenever it's available. She's even calm about our two standard poodles peering through the door at her (we've kept them apart so far so she has time to get settled). We're so happy that she's joined our family, thank you Savannah Humane Society!

As promised here are a couple of photos and an update on Cassie (kitty) new name Samantha Cassie (she answers to her name Samantha) that I adopted at the end of April. :)
She went from 5 lb 8 oz to now 8 1/2 lb and she is adjusting well. I think she finally knows that she is going to stay and this is her home as she has started the 'marching with the paws and purring.' I am still letting her do things on her terms and she sleeps with me and the place is hers and she seems to really enjoy it ... sitting on window sills looking out at birds, etc., as my condo is on the 3rd floor and loves playing with her toys. Also, I have a screened in balcony and we go out every day for a while and enjoy the fresh air. She is very smart as she reaches up for the door knob when she wants to go outside. :)
She celebrated her first birthday June 18 (according to your records) and she received a LOT of toys from friends and family. She is still a little skittish of guests only at first and then she comes around as she realizes that they are not going to take her away (is my thought). lol
I take her to the vet to get her nails trimmed and we have done this every month. As you can see from the pictures, she is doing well. She's a keeper and we are great friends.
I'll stop in one day just to give you all some food, etc., as what your society does is a wonderful thing for animals that do deserve a 2nd chance. Enjoy the pics...one is in her favorite toy...the TUNNEL!
September 18, 2009
You asked me to keep you updated on how Samantha (Cassie) is doing. I did send some earlier pictures. As you can see from the picture, she is doing very well. Got her nails trimmed last week and the vet said she is 10 lb. I love her and we are great friends. She now enjoys being combed and brushed .. many people have told me that she is most likely part Maine Coon.
I'll stop in one day to drop off some food.
Take care, Cynthia Jacim
October 10, 2009
I wanted to send you a recent pic of Samantha (Cassie). The vet and many other cat owners have told me that Samantha (Cassie) is very much a Maine Coon cat. She is now 1 year and 3 months and weighs 11 lbs. I think she is beautiful and her fur changes daily as she grows. I am so happy that we connected.

Well Chance has now taken over the whole house. He is doing well. He has a bit of a nervous stomach but the Vet has him on a medication and that seems to be working well. He loves to bark at the cat that lives outside and to chase birds when we take him for a walk. He knows where every window is that he can see out of and every piece of furniture that he can play under. We have learned to leave chairs under the tables so that he doesn’t get on the tables so you can imagine we have a few training issues that we are working on. Enjoy the pictures.

Humane Society staff:
On April 9, 2009 I adopted a black lab mix named Roxie.
I thought you might like an update and be able to look at a few pictures of her now.
First of all, we have renamed her "KD" (Kadie). She has been back in our New Jersey home for over two months and has total run of the house.
We recently had to put down our 16-year-old lab mix and that is why we decided to adopt another.
What is amazing is she is almost a clone of the dog we had prior to our last dog. Same look, same ears, same mannerisms.
She is ideal around children. My three granddaughters love her and she is very gentle with them.
She had some kennel cough when we got her but she is over that and a very healthy dog. She loves to go to the ballfield and chase balls and she loves to play in the kid's sandbox, too.
She also likes to play with her friend Shakira (my son's dog).
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to have such a wonderful dog.

In February 2009, I decided to take a random trip to the humane society. I already had a german shepherd, but for some reason, I wanted to go look at the dogs there. My significant other was at work and I took a picture of a litter of puppies and sent it to him. Little did I know, I had taken a picture of the puppy we would end up taking home. I picked him up and we went back to the humane society and I was trying to get him to look at all of the dogs, but he kept going back to that one litter of puppies of half-Rottweiler, half-American Bulldogs.. He really liked the one puppy named Fancy for some reason and we decided to get her. It's been 4 months now and we re-named her Penny. She is the sweetest dog EVER! Even when she gets in trouble, her face is too cute to stay mad at. When she lets out a loud fart, she gets so excited and wags her tail so hard, her whole bottom shakes. She and Gordy (the german shepherd) are constantly playing with each other, mainly just her latching onto his neck as he runs. Penny likes to walk around the apartment with something in her mouth, a sock, frisbee, a ball, etc. I think she is very attached to her daddio. Whenever he leaves the apartment, she watches him from the window and stands at the top of the stairs, quietly whining, waiting for him to walk back in.
I really think we picked out an awesome puppy and I'm so glad we have her. She's friendly to everyone and wants to play with every dog she comes across. This is the first time I've ever adopted a pet and I had a good experience. I encourage everyone to rescue a pet's life by adopting more. When we get a house and nice yard, I'm thinking of adopting a 3rd dog. :) Thank you, Penny is awesome!

Dear Friends,
I adopted Colby in late January and he now goes by the name Isaac. The name is Hebrew for "he laughs" and it couldn't be more appropriate. He is one of the happiest, friendliest, goofiest, most handsome dogs I have ever met and those feelings are echoed by just about everyone he meets. He is now a healthy 35 pounds and still growing! He loves to take rides in the car, wander around Forsyth Park, and mix it up in the water when he gets a chance. As you can see, he also enjoyed his first St. Pat's Parade. Thank you for giving me a great friend and if you see us on the streets and squares of Savannah, say hello!

Milo really loves his new home and we really really love him. He gets along great w/ his brother the Red Bone coonhound Jethro and his Cat Rocky. He is a great dog and we are so happy we got him. He thinks he is a 150 pound lap dog and he must sleep in the bed! He also gets along really well with my Grandson. Milo is such a great dog that we are wondering how he ended up at your shelter in the first place. Will you please tell us his story? He walks great with a gentle leader on and this keeps him from pulling. He acts as though he has worn that leader before so maybe he was trained with one in the past. We have realized that he has very sensitive skin and so if he is outside for very long he has to wear sunscreen. He rode back to Tennessee just perfectly in the car too. He is a great car rider. He is very clingy with me and doesn't let me out of his sight, probably because he changed homes so many times. He doesn't like being left but he is good if you do have to leave him for a little while. He never tears stuff up. He is just a huge baby! and we Love him!
May 12, 2009
The trip home with Milo was great. I was nervous about the first stop because I was unsure of walking him as I had not done that, and he was perfect. We stopped three times , one time it was poring rain and he didnt care he just got out used the bathroom and got back in. When we got home my brother came to see him and he was perfect. To this point he has not made a sound. I thought does he speek? Then his new brother Jethro, and his new Dad came home and he barked. That was the first noise he had made. Jethro loves him and they love to be with each other. We haved to watch them because Milo (127#) is so large and Jethro (72#) is so wild that just the size of Milo will hurt Jethro. Jethro just keeps going back for more. Milo paces alot and keeps going back to the car maybe thinking he'll go back home. I took him to the vet Sat. morning to have him completely checked out, and they put him on anti-biotic and pain meds. His weight was 127 and he checked out great. The first night his leash unhooked and he jumped and ran around like a free kid but we caught him right away. Later that evening his collar came off and he and Jethro ran all over like wild Indians. We caught him by opening the back of my car and he jumped in. What a relief. Monday he went to work and Romeo, my daughters dog that also works there didn't like him much, they will take some time. He gets along fine with the cat at our house. They just look at each other, but he doesn't chase it. He is a great boy, and I'd like to thank you for choosing me to have him. I love him. He is still a bit nervous and is stuck to me like glue, but he seems to be getting a bit more comfortable. He sleeps with me at night and sleeps all night.
Thank you.

When my roommate left suddenly and took our cats I was devastated to be left alone so I decided I needed a dog. When I came looking for a dog I had a strict set of criteria: as I am disabled I needed a dog who didn't need to take long walks, I lived in an apartment so I needed a quiet dog and one under 25 lbs. And I wanted an older dog as I didn't have time or energy to train a puppy. The girls at the shelter pointed me towards Tyson (original name) and history was made.
Tyson was very afraid of the world and through his behavior it was obvious he had come from abuse. However, once he realized he was fully home and didn't have to worry about me hurting him, he really settled in.
He is well traveled and is a very good traveler. On the plane people often remark that they didn't realize a dog was on board. He plays well with other doggies. He sleeps about 12 hours at a time which is heaven on earth for me at night.
Tyson is spoiled rotten. He sleeps in the bed...not on...in! And he gets new tiny toys on a regular basis prompting him to go mental from joy. He is well behaved, good natured, entertaining (apparently the cat's purring sounds like growls...he is not amused) and the sweetest dog on the planet.
While we may not live in Savannah any more, Tyson and I owe the world to the humane society for hooking this dream team up.

Hello,
Note: This kittens name was Candor, but I renamed him Ricky.
I adopted Ricky about a week ago and he's been the biggest blessing in my life. I had always had cats growing up, but they were always family pets. Ricky is the first pet I've ever had that was strictly mine and it's great. The first day I brought him home was hard because all he did was hide under my bed and hiss at me; I was heart-broken. But then the very next day, I coaxed him out with a toy and he was as playful and social as ever. Now he takes naps with me and lays on my chest and purrs non-stop! I'm so glad I was able to adopt Ricky from the Savannah Humane Society, it's a good feeling to know that I've rescued an animal who would have been an orphan. I highly recommend it!

As you can see in the photo, Oliver is a handsome dog. He's also the most loyal and well-behaved dog we've ever experienced.
When we first became interested in adopting Oliver, a representative from the Humane Society told us that he had entered their care with a heartworm infection. They needed a foster family to care for him over the four weeks following his treatment, while his immune system eliminated the remaining heartworms from his bloodstream. During this time he would not be allowed to exercise, because of the likelihood that a fragment of the heartworm could block oxygen flow to the blood and trigger a deadly pulmonary embolism. We would have the option to adopt after his successful recovery.
Because Oliver was to be our first dog together, we thought a short-term commitment with an option to adopt would be best, in case we turned out to be a bad match. For the week prior to Oliver's treatment, he became familiar with his new foster home. He got off to a good start by demonstrating that he was house broken and by being very gentle toward my wife, who had always been timid of dogs.
The best thing we did for ourselves (and for Oliver) at this time, was to rent and watch the first season of The Dog Whisperer in the span of a few days. Following Caesar Milan's advice, in a short amount of time we helped Oliver overcome his little peccadilloes, such as possessiveness, fear of stairs, and growling at other dogs. It is amazing how quickly he became a first-rate pet that we could trust in any situation. The Dog Whisperer is an excellent and entertaining program for anyone adopting a dog.
We're grateful to the Humane Society of Savannah for saving Oliver from abandonment and for the effort and resources they put forth to eliminate his life-threatening heart worm infection. He's a perfect match for us.

Otis (you knew him as Blue) has been with my boyfriend Alec and I for a little over a month now, and things couldn't be better. When he first came home he had a little upper respiratory infection that went unnoticed at the shelter, but even so, he was incredibly sweet and quickly came to see our apartment as his home. He sleeps in his crate at the foot of our bed for now, but he is sleeping better and better through the night, so soon we hope he will sleep in a dog bed right next to us. His coat is soft and shiny now, and he is getting much more muscular (his bark has some new legs to it, too!) thanks to long walks around downtown and frequent trips to the dog park, where he has lots of fun running around and playing very well with all the other puppies and dogs. Especially since he was neutered, even the big male dogs love Otis and will sometimes let him play with them. Because of an incredibly winning puppy lope, Otis isn't a very fast runner, but he is always up for the chase anyway! His German Shepherd coat and Hound Dog face get him lots of attention from strangers, which he loves-- he makes fast friends with anyone who stops to pet or praise him. He likes to go out to eat with us, especially to Clary's, where the waitresses give him lots of treats, and to Blowin' Smoke where, if he's lucky, he gets a big beef bone to work on. He is a very happy dog, especially so when both of his parents are home and he gets to cuddle with both of us on the futon, or when all three of us go for long walks together. I think he'll be very happy when we all start obedience classes at Petsmart tomorrow! Thanks for taking care of Otis before we came and met him, it's hard to imagine what life was like before he was part of our family. Attached are photos of Otis when he first came to live with us, and more recently (my favorite is the one where he managed to get himself impressively muddy at the dog park!)

To All My Friends,
My name is Yogi (Original name) and I was adopted March 5, 2009 to a wonderful mom. When I first went home I was scared but it did not take me long to realize I am loved and have a great home. A week after I got home I went to the doctor and weighed 4 lbs 11 oz and got a clean bill of health with the exception of some dry skin. I have all my shots (thank goodness) but I overheard my mom say I had to have one every six months!! I got the housebroken thing down pretty good but I do have a few accidents on my big human brother's bath mat (intentional-hmm!! maybe?) I do get in trouble but I love him anyway. I love to go with my mom in the car but she olnly lets me go when I am allowed in stores. My favorite store in PetSmart because sometimes I see some of my old friends - what a great place to socialize!! I also like going to my grandmother's house to play with Su-Su (her cat) but Su-Su does not like me very well. I keep trying to get a long with her but she will not have it right now (thank gosh she is declawed) but mom says keep trying to be her friend. Grandmother also keeps calling me a "SHE" talk about someone getting a complex but I love her so much!! Mom brought me a lot of toys and my favorite is tennis balls. Mom throws them I run, fetch and bring them to her and we do it over again and again and again (you know what I mean!!). Guys! Guess where I sleep at night?? In my mom's BIG FLUFFY BED!!! Oh! boy life is good!!! I just wanted all my friends to know that I am doing great and miss all of you!! I will be at the Doggie Carnival in May and hope to see my old friends and meet their family's.
Your Friend Forever
~Yogi
To the wonderful people at the Huamen Society, Thank you so much for the opportunity to adopt Yogi. He is so much of a joy to me and my family. As you can see in the above letter from him he is doing extremely well!!
Thank you again, ~Gail Tirey

Here are some pics of Shiloh. She is frisky, friendly, and the minute me or my husband sit down, she jumps in our lap. The other cat in the pic is Shiloh's "brother", Bobby, my daughter's 10-month old kitten, who paid us a special visit to meet the new addition to the family.

Hello,
We just wanted to share some pictures of our new adopted son from your shelter. He was originally named Oopsy Bear, however, when we were taking him to his new home he pleaded with us to change his name. He stated that he did not like his name and that he was afraid he would end up having issues as an adult and would have to have therapy sessions if he were to remain with the name Oopsy Bear. We discused several names with him and he was thrilled with the name Hastings.
We are both thrilled to have Hastings as a part of our family. We hope you enjoy his pictures that were taken on Easter Sunday 04-12-09.
Sincerely,
Timothy, Dawn, & Hastings Hall

Hello Everyone,
This is Leslee LeBouton, I adopted "Romeo" almost 2 weeks ago.
I've renamed him "Montee," because I think he needed a fresh start with us!!
He's very smart, I think he already knows his name!
We're doing quite well, I think he likes it here with myself and Jack. I'm not sure how much Jack likes it yet, but he's dealing with it! He's a big change for us, Montee is very PUPPY! Which we have to get used to again because Jack is pretty much a mello fellow, mama's boy! Montee wants to play with him all-day long, and Jack isn't sold on it yet.
But he's very much a sweetheart and it's fun because he is so playful that I hope Jack eventually will chase him around and have fun with him! So far Jack is running around...away from him!
Thanks for picking me, I think we're going to be GREAT!
Have a great day,
Leslee :)
I hope that you enjoy the pictures of them just chillin'!! :)

Hi,
I wanted to send this photo of the cat I adopted from you on February 3, 1997. He was a stray found on the streets of Savannah and was very wary of everyone. He was about 5 months old and weighed 4.6 lbs at his first vet check up.
His name is Maluka II and is now 12 years old, 22 inches long from nose to base of tail and weighs around 16.5 to 17.5 lbs. He has decided that he is a lap kitty now. Loves to lay in the windows and watch the birds outside on the feeders. He is a huge part of my life and brings great joy to our household. We have a Maltese also and they are great friends.
Just thought you may in interested to know that your one of your adoptees is spoiled rotten and is living a good healthy life and is much loved. We have a very good veterinarian who helps me take excellent care of "my guy".
Thank you for the work you do for our 4 legged friends and companions.

I was lucky enough to adopt Foxxy from y'all on Jan. 16, 2009. She had been a foster at Lora Owens house. She had heartworms, fleas , puppies, & lots of abuse in her 1 1/2 years. It took her at least a month at my house to re-adjust to everything. She was even afraid to go out into my spacious, fenced yard for a long time. I had to move very slowly and not raise my arms or voice around her. It was like she had post traumatic stress syndrome. She is the love of my life now, and loves my little pug, Roxy, also. They lick and "flea" each other all the time. They play, and compete for my affection. I wish I could adopt more sweet and loving dogs from your shelter. I do have those plans if I ever win the lottery! Thank you so much for all that you do! Tina Humbert

We adopted Crystal last Friday and she is now known as "Gypsy" (in recognition of her mostly unknown past!) So far she has adapted beautifully. Our family has fallen in love with her. She is housebroken and has not had any accidents. She loves to sit and offer her paw as a greeting. Our daughter Peyton loves to cuddle with her and we all love to pet her extremely soft fur! She went for her vet check today and got a mostly clean bill of health. She did have very dirty ears they said (which they cleaned) and ear mites which we are treating. She is due to go back in a few weeks for her last booster shot. We are very excited to have found such a loving pet and look forward to many years of fun with her. I am sending a few pictures we took...she's such a beauty!

Hi it's me Lemonade except now my name is Chloe' and I've been
adopted one whole day! I like my new home and my parents and my big
black Lab sister Sammie and my kind of snooty French rat terrier sister,
Puce. I have my own personal crate and wire fenced area in the kitchen
with lots of toys, water and a potty pad. And guess what? I already go
on my potty pad all the time! I just had that one accident but we don't
need to talk about that.
I may only be 8 weeks old and one pound but I have a HUGE
Chihuahua personality. I like to ride in the car and Mom bought a pouch
for me to ride in over her shoulder so I can go everywhere. I'm too
small for a harness or collar. We are going to make me one soon. I'm
very good and hardly ever cry because as you can see I have lots of
stuffed toy Chihuahua friends to keep me company. I'll be back for a
visit really soon but today I have to go meet my grandmother and make an
appointment for my vet check up.
Say hi to all the other pups and I hope they get to go home soon
too!

Dear Cat Lovers
I am attaching the most recent pictures of Oscar and Pepper.
They show the cat getting along swimmingly.
One picture I could not get was of Pepper with his paw over Oscars
shoulder, they were to fast for me.
Thanks for such a wonderful Cat.
March 7, 2009
We just adopted Oscar. His Picture is attached here.
Oscar made himself right at home. He wants to play with Pepper,
our other adopted cat. Pepper is having a tough time, but is already
showing improvement. Where Oscar wants to play and is not
hissing or growling at Pepper will adapt easier. Oscar is not afraid and
not worried, so that will help greatly.

I adopted Elvis in September 2007. His name was Chandler, at adoption time. There is a picture of him on the carpet, when he was a new member of the family. The other pics are more recent. He gets along great with my kitty, Adelaide. They appear to be best friends. We take frequent trips to the dog park and a day doesn't go by where we don't get our one hour a day walk. : )
People always say how lucky he is because I rescued him from the Humane Society. I say that I'm the lucky one. He's enriched my life in ways I could never of imagined. His unconditional love and companionship has surpassed anything I thought possible. He's the sweetest dog ever. He loves people, other dogs and is great with kids. Everyone that meets him compliments me on what a sweet little guy he is.
I wake up every morning to his head on my tummy, back or legs..... all snuggled up against me.
He's the best.
Thanks for my Elvis.

In early 2008 we adopted Skye from the Humane Society. My daughter renamed her Princess Cricket and is the love of both of my young kids. In fall of 2008, we decided to start looking for a dog to adopt. We inquired about Janet, and the Humane Society assured us that this spirited little dog would get along well with both cats and young children. We renamed her Roxy, and she is the perfect dog. We feel very lucky to have such wonderful pets. Thank you!

My fiance and I have been living together for about a year. We already have a dog, Auska, a lab/pit who is 2 years old. With my fiance having a full time job, and with me being in the army, she spent a lot of time home alone. Once I got out of the military around Christmas, we both decided it was time for our family to grow and give Auska a little sibling. We've been looking for at least 3 months, in the paper, at pet stores, but just couldn't find the right one for us. One day we were looking for dog parks in the Savannah area and we just happen to drive past the humane society. We decided to go in and see what it was like in there. The minute we walked in, we saw April with her family. She immediately stole our hearts! After a night debate, we decided to take the plunge and adopt April. Although the adoption process was challenging, the day we took April home was a happy one and worth the effort!!! Auska, being the "only child", she had to get used to another dog being in the house. After about 5 days, they were inseparable! It's hard to imagine life without little April being a part of our family! Thank you Humane Society of Savannah!!!

We adopted Calamity on Feb 8th. The kids changed her name to Sandy. She is the sweetest thing. Dr Bremer checked her out and said that she was in perfect health. There was a small bout of diarrhea that lasted two days but Dr Bremer suggested an over the counter medication that helped the puppy with that. Now she is fine. So far, she can sit, lay down, stay, come, fetched, and drop it. We are working on the mouthing. Sometimes, she bites us when playing but we continue to do what the DVD says and stop playing when she gets too rough.
Thank you for this wonderful addition to our family. She is a joy!
Thanks,

Hi,
I am attaching 2 pictures of him (Braveheart) for you to post if you care to.
He is such a good puppy, sleeps all night, is about 95% housebroken already thru a rewards treat, like all puppies he wants to play and chew but he already understands "NO", and the word sit. He loves long walks and is just a real joy to us.
You are very professional in everything you do and we thank you for your kindness.
Thanks again !

First I should say THANK YOU for allowing me the opportunity to adopt her. Tabasco seemed like a great name for a male dog so I renamed her...Tequila Rose....she is a wonderful dog!!!!!!!!!!! She stays right beside me all day...she is laying at my feet as I type right now. My husband fell in love with her too....oh heck....my whole family loves her. She is very good with all the grandchildren. It was alot of commotion for her to adjust to but she is adapting just fine.
I was fortunate enough to be called back to work and we are now in Biloxi, MS building a Target Store for the next few months. We went down to the beach on the Gulf Shore Sunday afternoon and I took a few pics. I thought you might like to see how she has been spending some of her days recently. Im also attaching a pic of her side kick...."Crazy Cat". They"re best buds!!
Thanks Again!!!!!!

Hello,
I wanted to give you an update and send a photo of Comet, the lab/husky mix we adopted late last year. He is such a great dog! He loves his HImalayan kitty brother, Casper, but his best friends are the two little girls who live with him. He's extremely protective of them. He loves playing fetch, chasing the kitty around the house, cleaning up under the baby's high chair, and sneaking onto the couch when no one's home. He's enjoying his new home, yard, and bed, and is turning out to be a wonderful addition to our family. THank you so much for taking care of him until we found him.

Here are some pics of our new baby. She saw the vet today and got a clean bill of health but does have a little gingivitis. Still a little possessive of her toys but we are working on that and she's making progress daily. She and Sofie are becoming great friends as you can see. We felt she was saved just for us. Thank you all for your help and God bless you in your work. Warm regards,

Hey! I just wanted to write and say that we could not be happier and more thankful for our two new kittens! We adopted Cafe and Inn (now Donald and Daisy) :) about 2 weeks ago. They are PERFECT! They have the best personalities and fit right in at our house. They love to play, love exploring, and love all the new toys we bought them. They carry the toys up the scratching post/tower that we got them and put them in the basket bed that's attached. They don't mind car trips and are excellent pets!! We were so blessed to be able to adopt them and I know I am a lot less stressed now that we have two wonderful additions! :) I have attached a few pictures of them around the house, and some exploring the running water in the bathroom faucet. (My new hobby is taking pictues of them! Everything they do is so cute! So sorry if there are so many pictures but I can't help it!) :) Thanks so much for everything and for our two wonderful new family members!

We so love our new puppy - well... Daddy's new puppy. He fits in PERFECTLY with our family. His personality is JUST right for our other two awesome dogs. Thanks so much for such a wonderful gift. He was my husbands bday gift. Daisy was my Christmas gift one year, and she is DEFINATELY a momma's baby. Sally was our daughter's Christmas gift one year and she, too, is DEFINATELY her baby. Our son's dog, Petey, passed away this summer after being w/ us for 13 years. He, too, was DEFINATELY his baby. He's not quite ready for another one. But my husband was and Marley (we changed his name from Bear) has DEFINATELY become daddy's baby. Making my husband extremely happy and proud. Each of them follow us everywhere and go w/ us everywhere. We boat alot out to explore the outer islands and are looking forward to Marley loving it as much as Daisy and Sally do.
Thanks again for the gift of love.

Hi old friends, it's me Bert! Well, actually my name is now "Deuce" since I wasn't really feeling like a "Burt". My new life is great. When I first got here Master took me to the vet and I had worms and fleas. They gave me medicine and I'm fine now. I have a big house with a pool and fenced yard. The yard is nice but I really prefer sticking close to the family inside.
The new family is great. I spend all day at my master's side and take good care of her. Sometimes I have to put down her shoes but she gives me a rawhide chew instead. I sleep right next to her bed so I can protect her at night. Sometimes during the day I sleep by the fireplace on my new bed.
Master's husband is really nice too but he doesn't like it when she lets me get on the furniture. He plays games in the yard and I hang out with him when we have yard work to do. I like to run through the pine straw and mess it up playing tag. I'm pretty fast and I've gained about 5 pounds.
There's a teenage girl in the family but she's gone during the day but I spend time with her when she gets home from school. I sit in her lap and let her scratch my belly. There's an old dog living with us named "Reddog" who moves real slow. I take her bone sometimes and she growls at me so master makes me give it back and chew my own bone. I have to share. I get lots of treats, especially when I show them how I've learned to sit, roll-over, stay and come. I do good walking on my leash too. My master says she thinks I'm the smartest dog she's ever had!
A few weeks ago I got to go to the beach and chase seagulls and dig for crabs. The water was cold but I think I'm going to like swimming. I've been looking at the pool and thinking it might be fun to take a swim this summer.
All in all life is great! I miss you guys and I think a lot about how you took such good care of me while I was looking for my new family. I hope my pals have found families too cause it sure is good to be loved. I hope Ernie likes his new home as much as I like mine. I'll try to drop by and see you guys next time we go to the beach house in Tybee. For now I'll send some pics.
Love,
Deuce

Hello,
By popular request, here are some pictures of Root Beer in his new home. He's great! I never can seem to get to my camera quick enough when he's doing funny stuff, so these are just normal. I'll send some more if I can snap them in time!
Thanks again,

Yeah, we found our orange tabby! Yesterday we adopted a male orange tabby from the Humane Society, his name is Sage. We did look at a few amazing kittens and cats in person and on-line and I want to thank you all for the time you took with me. I know they will all find the right home as Sage found with us. (We may change his name though because we are not crazy about it for a cat.) He is adjusting very well to our home. Yesterday morning he spent a few hours exploring, then I let the other 2 cats in and they got to know eachother (there was only one or two hisses). They all 3 slept in the room with us (not completely by choice J). Sage must have just taken over the bed because by morning he was the only one left on it. This morning I saw Sage chasing Princess and they were playing. My other cat it upstairs staying away from all the commotion but that is what she is always doing. He has already found so many hiding spots: tv cabinet, babies crib drawer, husband office book shelf, kitchen cabinet, kids chest of drawers. Sometimes he is hard to find. But we absolutely love him. I did want to say Thank You to those of you who mentioned to me to keep my cats indoors. I am going to trying and keep them all as indoor cats. Usually only the boys want out and now that Sage is used to indoors I don’t think we will have too much of a problem to keep them all indoors since my other cats are female. Well thank you all again for your help with helping me find our new cat. Enjoy the pics of our newbie! Katie

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to give you an update on our Chloe better known to all of you as Chica. We adopted her on October 30th. She has settled in real well and we are having so much fun with her. She is a lovable little sweetheart and full of energy. She loves running around and playing in the backyard with her older brother Bandit (11 yr old Boston Terrier) and her 4 1/2 yr old human sister Jada. Did I mention she loves digging holes too. Bandit and Chloe became buddies, they love to snuggle together. She loves biting at the vacuum and playing with all her toys and boy does she have a lot of them. She leaves them all around the house, it's like having a toddler again. We just love her and are so happy that she is a part of our family. Many thanks to all of you.
Sincerely, The Sist Family

I adopted Tony (was Tiny) and Bailey On November 23rd they are very sweet little dogs. Bailey has some allergy issues we are working on and there is some improvement, he also needs to lose a couple pounds. We have had only
2 accidents as they are housebroken but are adjusting to a daily routine.
I really enjoy the little guys and I am getting to learn their individual personalities. They do like to go for rides in the car and have taken several short trips already. I can see they need to be together and not knowing the exact breed I call them Siamese terriers.
Thanks and will send some pictures of Tony's progress of getting a bit more fit.
Sincerely,
Jill Cadman

We adopted an orange tabby named Wiley, his new name is Raja, last April, and we wanted to let you know he is doing great. He is definitely part of the family now, and even has a relationship with our dog, Daisy, that he would never want his cat friends to know about (see attached photo).
He is very much a kitten still, which is proven with his attraction to our Christmas Tree ornaments, he's broken three already!
Take care,
Brian Schindler

Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous. ~Albert Einstein
My husband Jeff and I had been discussing adopting a puppy for about a year now. We are a very happy family with 2 beautiful dogs; Natosha our Border Collie adopted from the Humane Society (9 yrs old) and Mick he is a Pointer who wandered onto our doorstep before we moved to Savannah (2 yrs old).
When I adopted Natosha, I did not know that Collies could be prone to seizures, and she was. She started having seizures when she was about a year old. I took her to the vets and he advised since she did not have seizures often, to keep her off of the medicine, as most of the medicines have bad and sometimes fatal side effects. It was explained it would get either worse or better, as she got older, unfortunately they are gradually getting worse.
A rainy Sunday about a week ago, my husband and I went to pick up our daughter from Waynesboro, on the way back I just had this feeling, and blurted out “lets go to the humane society, just to look.” Ansley and Jeff agreed, in-fact Ansley being 10 was elated! As we walked through the parking lot, and into the doors to the kennels, there she was. Looking up at Ansley and I with big dark eyes, her body was shaking all over she was so scared.
Jeff walked up to see if we could get her out of her pen, her name was Allegra, so we took her outside. Upon getting her outside of the noisy kennel she continued to bathe each one of us with kisses all over our faces wagging that long tail. There was no question by coincidence we ended up at the Humane Society, and found a lost little puppy that needed us as much as we needed her!
To make a long story short we filled out the adoption application and immediately brought the kids (Mick and Natosha) to see if they all played well together, it was just as perfect as we could imagine.
Allegra, has now been renamed “Allie” as Allegra was just too hard for a 10 year old to remember, but Allie sounds very close to her other name, she has taken to it well. Allie is enjoying the finer things in life, playing all day, chewing lots of chewies and trying to figure out those busy toys. Lots of love, she now fully loves sleeping between Mommy and Daddy in bed! She follows Mick around all day long, like her lost mother, and when she is not sleeping with us, she sleeps on him! Thank you so much for all your help at the Human society, rest assured Allie has found her place in life, and it was all because of coincidence.

Quinne is settling in with us very happily and we are just delighted with her.
She and our cat, Gabby, are pretty comfortable together. The cat immediately established that she is still Queen here and Quinne respects that. The cat is young, flexible and secure all of which helps.
Quinne loves her new house and her fenced backyard and is becoming quite attached to us. She has been for long walks and a shopping trip to Pet Smart for toys.
Thanks to all of you at the Humane Society for everything you do - helping the animals and giving them the best care you can.

Riah, the cat, has brought so much joy into our home and been such as good companion to Charlie, the dog. She keeps Charlie busy when we are at work and she always likes to cuddle with us when he doesn't much feel like it. We still can't believe how easily she adjusted into our home, almost as if we were missing her the whole time. Her purr gets Charlie's tail wagging like nothing else can and he runs to her side whenever she lets out a little meow so he can make sure she is alright. Thanks for finding us Riah!

A few weeks ago I adopted Ariel, an beautiful blue eyed kitty. She is doing well, gets along well with her stepbrother Pawlee who came to us from the Humane society in June. We love having her and find her to be a very sweet and pleasant girl. She likes to sleep on our bed and has been eating a lot since she was rather run down from having had kittens recently. She eats twice as much as the other cat who is twice her size! Anyway, we love her and she has a forever home here. This is Ariel on her own chair at the kitchen Table

Hi,
Since ya'll took care of her for over five months, I thought you'd like an update about January (Paris). She's got a great personality, and I'm enjoying getting to know her. She loves being brushed but not bathed. She likes peanut butter more than sandwich meat. She's still super friendly and lovable with dogs and people. She's learning to share when my mom's dog visits, but she doesn't like letting Sage sleep on my pillow. One of my favorite things about January is how much she talks for no reason. Despite how vocal she is, she doesn't bark much at all. . . not even when she chases the rabbits and armadillos out of my backyard. She's put on about five pounds but is very much an athlete. I think it's all muscle she's developed during playdates with the boxer next door.
We're adjusting to living together, and she has learned to trust and obey me. For the first three months, she was quite a trip-hazard anytime I tried to leave her sight. Then, about two weeks ago, she stopped following me from room to room. Now it takes about 10 minutes before she checks on me. We're attending classes at Petsmart. She knows 'sit', 'down', 'leave it', and 'come' very well......as long as we are at home and there isn't any other stimuli. Just before 7pm, she stands by the front door and whines. That's because we go for a walk after the news. At 10pm, she gets on our bed with or without me. If I'm not up by 7am, she wakes me by snuggling under my arm and then licking my neck. Not so great on Saturdays. My only complaint is that she chews, and I'm worried about how I'm going to put up a Christmas tree. But I'm the one who invited a very active 20-month old dog into my home ;)
We're doing good, and I think she's really happy. Enjoy the photos, and I'll let you know how she and the Christmas Tree get along.
Thanks for taking care of her for me,
Sheila

I wanted to give you an update on Bella. Please see the attached pictures also.
My husband, Steve, and I adopted Bella, a 7-month old lab, on Friday, September 26th from the Savannah Humane Society. She came into our family that already included two humans and two older dogs. Bella has been a treat since the moment of adoption. Within 3 days she was fully potty-trained. She learned to sit on command the first day and also learned how to use the doggie-doors the first weekend. She loves to play and run full-speed outside in the yard. She has brought spunk back to the older dogs. Bella is such a wonderful, loving and playful pup. Bella gets showered with many hugs and kisses every day. We are thankful she has come into your lives. She has acclimated so well into the family, it seems like she has been with us forever.
Also, the same day we met Bella, we had found another puppy through Coastal Pet Rescue. We decided that if we were given the opportunity to bring both dogs into our home, we would. So, we now have 4 dogs and 2 humans - we are outnumbered 2:1! The last picture is of Bella and the other puppy, Trixie. Trixie just joined us on Friday, October 3rd. The two girls get along very well and tire each other out every day. I think it will be great for them to grow up together.
Thank you to the Humane Society for bringing Bella to me, Steve, Summer, China and Trixie.

Hello to All of You at the Humane Society!
My name is Jeffrey Grow, and I adopted the white American Eskimo you called “Mickey”, back on Sunday, August 31. Thanks again for the great job you all did in taking care of him, and in getting him to myself and my parents.
We decided to change his name to Maximilian (“Max”, of course). He went to PetSmart right after we left the shelter, for bathing and grooming, and we bought toys, food, etc. etc. He went to the vet (Crossroad, Dr. Sanders) the following Wednesday, and has his heartworm and flea meds. We have been back since then, due to a urinary bacterial issue that was (we think) causing him to almost unknowingly wee on carpets and floors indoors, no matter how often he is walked. With medication, that situation appears to be much better (wish us luck!).
Otherwise, Max is a delight. Precious, trying to become the alpha male, being a dog – but sweet and loving, and very happy to have a home. He loves his toys, loves all of us, and certainly has become the “protector of the realm” here. Squirrels, yard workers, birds, and even his own reflection all elicit a reaction out of this busy young boy. He races around checking on everyone’s status when we are here, and pines for anyone who has the nerve to leave the home. He is a piece of work!
Two pictures of Max are enclosed. Thanks, again, for being the generous conduit to bring him into our lives. We are looking forward to many years of enjoyment with this great little dog.
Sincerely,
The Grow Family

Dear Human Society of Savannah,
My roommates and I have really been enjoying the time we spend with Rock. He's very playful and equally as cuddly. He has already grown so much, because we spoil him. He gets along great with the other cat in the house (Soot) as well as our friends dog that occasionally comes over to play together. We appreciate everything you have done for us, thank you for giving us this bundle of joy.
Thanks so much!

My name is Arianna. My family and I adopted Maggie (a white standard schuazer mix with a black eye and black spots) from the Savannah/Chatham Humane Society on June 17th. Its been a litte over 2 months now and Maggie has worked her way into our hearts.
We had been dogless for a little over 2 months, our dog Sandi had died from bone cancer, and me being 15 and home alone a couple days a week, I needed another dog. I had never been without one for more than 2 months. My mom really wanted a dog too, but my dad said that he wanted to wait until the end of summer because of vacations that we were going to be taking. But my mom and I went to you guys anyways...and we found Maggie. :]
She's been an amazing dog, and she's all my responsibility. I love her to death.
She cans be quite a pistol though, terrorizing our two cats Lucy and Zorro, chasing squirrels in not only our yard, but the neighbors yard too. She loves flip flops, and watching my dad mow the lawn from the sliding glass door. She has three favorite toys:
-her wubba(or a kong ball covered in purple wool)
-her frizbee(which i found out hurts when she bites the middle of it on your thigh)
-and her rope.(which is fun to play tug of war)
I just wanted to say thank you. For my dog. We all love her so much.

My boyfriend, Marius, and I adopted Wilfred on August 5th of this year for my birthday. Ever since the first day, he has been the love of my life. Wilfred immediately adapted and everyone tells us he is a happy dog. He loves to run around and play with his toy lobster, then happily collapse in his den under the coffee table. His favorite time of the day is at 7:00 in the morning when he tippy toes around the bed, tail wagging, to go out for his morning walk. Ever since he got his hair cut, he thinks he is bad to the bone, taking on the horses downtown. I believe "Wilfry" really knows he got a second chance and is the most loving addition to my family I could imagine. Thank you Savannah Humane Society.

Aaron and I adopted Indi-ana (Mini) on June 14th, 2008. So far she has exceeded all of our expectations. We were able to house break her in about a day. She is the friendliest dog I have ever come in contact with. She loves people and dogs. She is so smart as well. So far she has learned sit, come, stay, heel, up, down, crawl, walk (on two feet), and fetch. We took her to the beach and the lake...she loves the water. She's been to Iowa, Florida and Texas. I can't imagine a better dog. She quickly became a part of the family and our hearts. Thank you Savannah Humane Society!
Sincerely,
Aaron, Alicia and Indi

Melitta and I went to the Humane Society this weekend and adopted Chanel. We call her Coco Chanel No. 5. She is a mix.
We both saw her and loved her, but did not love the Housebroken: NO. We decided to bet the come anyway. She is a beautiful girl and her personality keeps coming out. We have had two minor accidents, but for the most part she knows where to go when it is time to go. I think her accidents were more related to being freaked out.
I thought we were going to have a hell of a time, because she would not get on the elevator. No problem any more. The problem is getting on the elevator without her. She is also doing a great job of training us. I think that she realizes that we are freaked out about her peeing in the house and she has learned that if she wants a walk … just walk to the elevator and one of those two bozos is going to pop up and take me for a long walk. She literally went out 15 times yesterday for a 15 minute walk each time. The other issue that we were worried about was the “beast”. When they first met, Spirit growled and Chanel kept her distance. We have had a few growling endeavors, but last night Chanel said enough and put Spirit in his place … What is mine is mine.
We still have a trust issue, related to the housebroken: No sign. Chanel stays in the dog crate from bed time to about six in the morning. Then we take her out and if she does her business … she gets the BED! Two mornings in a row, we have had Chanel in the bed with us. She also loves the sofa. And, when things get tough she does have the crate to hide in. Although Spirit is starting to covet the nice cave that she has. We might need to bring up the other dog crate for Spirit. We will find out during the next Thunderstorm when Spirit is seeking the safety of a cave and wants Chanel’s cave.
We love her and she loves Melitta. For now, she puts up with me. She does seem to have issues with males, but treats can do away with that pretty quickly.

This is Rupert. He joined our family almost a year ago. He is so loved and adored and is a huge part of our family. Rupert likes long walks in Forsyth Park while stopping to pee on every lamp post, and visit with everyone he comes across. Rupert also enjoys homecooked meals and t.v time with the family. When it's time for bed, Rupert chooses from a soft red couch in the family room to any one of the beds with the children upstairs. Rupert loves sunning himself on the backporch. He is a great watch dog, and playful hound. One of his activities consists of digging holes in the backyard and hiding his dog bones. We were lucky enough to celebrate his 3rd birthday this year. This summer, Rupert will go on vacation with the family. As we are aproaching the anniversary of Rupert joining our family, we could not imagine our family without him. He has such an animated personality, and doesn't have one bad bone in his body. We were very lucky to have been able to welcome Rupert into the family. We would just like to say thank you to the Humane Society for giving us such a wonderful gift.
With warm regards,

We adopted King (the white beagle-lab mix) in November 2007. He absolutely fit right in with my husband and son. Then in February, we decided to expand our family with another dog from the Humane Society: Tigger (the brown dog).
We originally thought he was a terrier, but Internet research shows that he is actually a Leonberger dog. Both King and Tigger love digging in the backyard, chasing each other around the house, and sleeping on someone's bed. They hate fireworks, stormy weather, and running out of rawhide bones.

Hey everyone,
My friend took these pictures when I went over to his house this weekend. I thought I would share. Panda had just come from the groomers so his hair is a little shorter. Sadie(a.k.a. Lady) and him have been having such a great time together. Panda gets Sadie to loosen up a bit, she has been playing a lot more. Sadie has been herding Panda away from places he shouldn’t
go (like the kitchen, the couch, and when he jumps up on people she knocks him down). They won’t stop kissing and following each other another, I don’t know what she did without him.
Thank you so much for everything. I will send more picture over time.

We adopted Angel back in February 2008. She's absolutely wonderful & we can't imagine life without her! The first few days were a little rough (she got really sick), but she's 100% adjusted to her new life and family. She likes wrestling and belly rubs & she's determined to catch a squirrel or bird one of these days!! She even crosses her front legs when she lays down -- she's such a lady!!
Thanks so much for taking care of her until we found her! She's the greatest pet we could ever ask for!

Ravi aka Gotti is a wonderful traveler. Ravi (meaning Sun or Fire in Hindu) (Phonetic Pronunciation: RAH-vee) Thomas (my best friend in college who passed away) Long (cause that my name too). he made it on the 10 hour trip back to Florida (lots of traffic) he slept most of the way no winning or anything. probably the best traveler ever out of any four legged creature I've been around. He's very smart he's learned his name already! as well as how to sit and sometimes how to stay. when we got home I put a blanket down for him and he seemed to understand that this was his blanket. on a walk this morning I guess I was standing on a fire ant hill. lets just say my legs and arms really itch (they don't have fire ants in DC). I could not have asked for a kinder dog. thank you all so much for taking good care of him. I have already fallen completely head over heels with my little guy. when I get back to savannah in august I will bring him by. I've sent a few pictures and promise to keep you informed of his progress.
again thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We wanted to say thank you so very much for letting us adopt our kitty Zoe, Duckie as she was known to you.
She has turned out to be a special kitty, very friendly, loving, playful and clean!
If you remember, we travel full time in a motorhome, well Zoe doesn't really care for that but she is slowly getting used to it, however loud noises like the motor running, rain on the roof she doesn't like at all~ Having six toes is making her a celebrity among our grand daughters who can't wait to meet her.
Please thank the lady who takes care of the cats, she is the reason they adapt so easily!
Thought you might like to see how she has "adjusted to life on the road"
Thanks again, keep up the good work~

A friend of mine adopted Montgomery Burns AKA "Monty" back in November 2007. I was there when he was adopted and recieved the title of being his caregiver. Monty and i got along so well, that now i take care of him full time. Monty was shy when i first met him and believe it or not he bit me twice. But after a few days of spending time with him we formed a freindship that grows stronger everyday. He is completely spoiled and loved by my entire family and all who meet him. I want to thank the Humane Society for all you do for these animals and for the opputunity you gave me and many others to share our lives with these wonderful companions. Im truly blessed and thankful to have him.

Hi,
Our family adopted two little sister kittensfrom the Humane Society in December 2007.
They were originally named Wendy 2 and Tiger, but their adopted names are now Pixie and Trixie.
Both kittens are healthy and doing well, although Pixie has a slight problem with the vestibular (sp?) nerve behind her left ear. The condition makes Pixie feel like she's off balance, so to compensate, she constantly tilts her head. Her sister Trixie helped her out and taught her to climb the stairs in our house, and how to steal laundry. We often find socks and other items around the house that Trixie has 'rearranged' for us.
As you can see from the photos, Pixie also loves to sleep on our laptop computer! We have to remember to close the screen so she can't surf the web.
Sincerely,
John, Molly Casey, Nick, Trixie and Pixie

Hello! My name is Angela and my family and I adopted “Daphne” on Feb.15, 2008. We now call her “Phoebe”! I wanted to let you know she is doing very well. It feels like we have always had her! She is the perfect addition to our family. We did find out that she has allergies and now is on medication. When we adopted her she had missing hair on her bottom by her tail. That is gone! J We do have to watch her diet! She loves to eat!! She gets along very well with my three sons and our dog “Ginger”. They love to play a lot! It’s fun to watch them! Hi there,
Jay and I got Delilah (then called Sweet Potato) back in December. She seems to be settling in quite nicely!
We've had to learn a lot about dogs to keep up with our adorable one-year-old. For instance, Delilah truly adores stuffing. Not the toy, just the stuffing. Preferably in little tiny fluffballs covering as much of the backyard as possible. She also enjoys undergarments and shoes (the strappy Amber kind, not the smelly Jay kind). She likes leather-bound journals too. We recently discovered that she also enjoys rawhide treats, which keep her occupied just as much as our DVD collection. (Rawhide has got to be the best invention ever; no wonder there's an entire aisle dedicated to it at Petsmart.)
She's forever thinking that our two cats will eventually want to play with her, especially if she barks and wags her tail high in the air. They don't. She still tries. We smile.
We are discovering that she loves to dig holes, especially if they lead to a sprinkler system or under our fence and out into a neighbor's yard or out into the street. She especially loves burying the little stuffed animal fluffballs in these holes, or any smallish household items.
We know that she can jump over one gate, but not two. She loves to jump all over strangers but she'll walk on a short leash with great manners.
Her absolute most favorite thing to do in the whole world is cuddle. I think that's why we love her dearly. Thanks for such a great dog!
Attached are some pictures of Deli's first day at the beach, and the whole family.
Sincerely,
Amber

Just wanted to give you an update on how Oliver (formally Marmalade) is doing!
He is loving his new home. He has a steady supply of dry food, but gets really excited when he gets his wet food at night. The dog is trying hard to make friends with him, but Oliver has some reservations. He mostly just ignores or bats at the dog. I'm hoping after he adjusts to living here, he and the dog can be friends.
However, he bonded to me and my roommates instantly. It's hard to walk around, because he's constantly underfoot! We went to Petsmart yesterday and bought him plenty of toy mice, jingly balls, and other such toys, so he's in heaven. He's definitely one of the more high spirited cats I've had. Thankfully, he tends to coordinate his sleep schedule to ours, so we get a few hours of peace. All in all, he's doing wonderfully. Thank you for letting me have this wonderful cat!
All the best,
Alexa Coburn

Hello:
Just thought I would take the opportunity to let you know that "Scooby" is doing very well. We adopted Scooby last August. Since then he has completed the Paw Print Dog Training course last October. Our goal is to train him through Coastal Pet Therapy so that Scooby can be utilized as a therapy dog given his gentle nature.
So all is well with Scooby on this end.
Sincerely,
Bob and Terri

Giddy wants to come see you after the holidays. He is too busy right now dealing with packages and decorations. He loves shopping bags.
These are two of my favorite pictures of him. Notice the altitude.
Merry Christmas!

Hi!
Here's a photo of Buddy and Justin. Justin was sick and Buddy shared a pallet with him. Buddy only left him long enough to potty and was right back. Buddy was so sick when we first got him and Justin took such good care of him. He had a severe respiratory thing...kennel cough or something like it so it took several weeks to see any energy or interest in things around him. I guess he figured it was his turn to comfort Justin. The second photo was Buddy's first night at our home. The third photo (not shown) is Buddy the WWF wrestler. This is a favorite game, pin the human! Another favorite game is "torment the cats". He hasn't quite figured out that they don't like him as much as he likes them.
Thank you so much for matching us with Buddy, he hasn't taken our beloved Beau's place but he's sure carving out a place in our hearts of his own!

I just wanted to thank you guys once again for allowing me to adopt the beautiful and playful border collie named Loki(eddie). I had been looking for a canine companion for awhile and when I met him I knew he was the one. Since I have adopted him it has truely been an awesome experience. He brings so much joy into my life,I couldn't imagine not waking up to him licking my face or all the time in the day I spend with him. Thank you guys so much for giving me the gift of being an owner. Animals like him wouldn't have a chance without the help and voices you give them. You guys are heroes, and I'm sure if they could speak they would tell you the same. I can reassure you that he has a life long home with my family and I. He is a well mannered boy who loves to play and loves people/dogs unconditionally,I could not ask for a better companion. You guys have gotten me to volunteer and get more involved with the animal community.
Thank you,
Jessica Suss

My name is Jess and we just recently adopted Eddie now known as Loki. We have had him for a few days now and its been amazing. He is one of the best dogs you could possibly ask for. He is a big sweetheart and love to get and give attention. He gets along with our little boston terrier puppy perfectly. They are constantly running around the house and yard together, you can even catch them sleeping next to eachother.Their days are filled with unlimited play time and games of tug o war. Everyone in the house loves him to death and we wouldn't want any other dog in his place. When I saw him it was love at first sight and I knew after spending 15 minutes in the yard with him that I had to take him home. I was excited to hear that I had been approved to adopt him and couldn't wait to go pick him up the next day. He is a fast learner and is always determined to learn something new. There is no way that we are ever going to give him up,he has found his permanent and loving new home with us forever. Here are some pictures of him at his new home.

Since we have adopted Oliver (formerly known as "Buddy") we have had so many laughs. The dog who was completely shy and mellow at the Humane Society is an outgoing, semi-naughty (in a good way), silly little boy. We call him the "Little Brother of Dogs" because he has to be the center of attention at all times. He loves to playfully bite his big sister Pepper and play with her for hours, chase his tail, play ball by himself and just be funny. He goes to bed every night (between us, under the covers) exhausted from a day full of 'being Oliver'. His walks are about 3 times everyone else's walks - he loves exploring and has to make sure he hits both sides of the street.
No longer mellow, he is the sweetest, funniest, cutest little dog ever. The thing we love most about him - his smile (with teeth!) which we see a LOT (and he's learning to do it on command - hilarious!).
I asked Oliver to tell you about himself and his new life, and here are his responses (I had to type them because he's still kind of a slow typist) --
Name: Oliver "No No" Palmer
Age: 9 months
Sign: Pisces
My Likes: Playing with my big "sister" Pepper Sue, chasing my tail, sticking my head out the car window and going fast, Blue Bear (my favorite toy that squeaks), my new Boy and Girl, sleeping with Mom and Dad (between them and under the covers), chewing.
My Dislikes: Cold mornings, costumes that make people laugh, tight tee shirts, carrots, swimming, riding in the bike basket (but I'm getting used to it - kind of), cats bigger than me.
Tricks: Dance, sit - OK now you sit.
My Favorite Music: Anything by Snoop Dogg, "How much is that doggie in the window?", "Love Shack" by the B-52s.
What I want to be when I grow up: My current plans are to grow up from being an ankle biter to a knee biter. After that, I'm thinking college to become an entomologist (once I get over my fear of them, of course).
Thank you for Oliver. We love him. :)
The Palmers -

Hi! I am Shelley Warth the new mommy of Honey Bunny Warth, that is her new name according to my children. Just wanted to let you know that she was doing great and is enjoying the pampering of her new life. She is primarily an inside dog but loves to go for walks and outside in the yard with the kids. She is very protective of her yard and her family and does not like it when other dogs come in to her territory around us. I am actually greatful for that seeing as she protects my two small children. She has been on a special diet for weight management and has gone from time of adoption from 81 1/2 lbs. to 74 lbs. and still going. Her ideal weight is around 65 lbs. so hopefully we will get her there. Any who just thought you might like to know how she was doing.
Sincerely,
Shelley Warth

Cappy/Capone/ sweet man, is doing wonderfully at his new place in athens. He loves his white shepherd sister scout and his two cats Theodore and Gracie. Cappy and Theodore sleep on my bed together and truly love eachother. I have never seen a cat and a dog get along so well. They play hide and seek in the house. Since I am in vet school all of my friends have many pets and we all get together and go the dog park and play. His best friend is Jake, an australian shepherd.
Cappy loves to go swimming when we visit my mom in Savannah and run around in the woods here in Athens. He truly is the kindest, sweetest dog and is learning to contain his energy very well.
Thank you for keeping him safe until I met him, Rebecca Gay

Cooper (Mike), I adopted from you guys back in August. We had a "ruff" few weeks initially, but I am happy to say he is doing a lot better with listening and commands. Lora Owens worked with us for about 4 weeks and that seemed to help a lot. At night Cooper still has some energy and has a hard time not jumping up and mouthing me on the hand and forearms. Overall though a great dog. You guys did a great job taking care of him while he was there. I am sorry I have not been able to come volunteer as much, but the weekends are really when I get some time to exercise him a lot and train him more. Once things calm down I will be coming back out on a regular basis. I have attached some recent pictures of Cooper to share with the staff.
Thank you,
Craig Wymer

Hi!
I wanted to send you a short success story that you can share with others who may be interested in adopting! I appreciate all you guys do to take care of neglected and abused animals. Please also see the attached pictures.
My husband and I adopted Sadie, formerly known as Suki, from the Savannah Humane Society two months ago. Since that time she has become a beloved member of our family who is not only adored by her parents but also her grandparents! My Dad calls her a "dream dog" because she is obedient, intelligent, extremely loving, great in cars, and house broken!
She is happiest when she is around people and the center of attention. Some of her favorite things are squeaky toys, long walks, chasing squirrels, and showing off her new tricks. She believes doing tricks will get her anything she wants!
We are so thankful for the Savannah Humane Society and we would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new four-legged friend. When you adopt a neglected or abused animal they are forever grateful, and they will spend the rest of their lives expressing their gratitude while bringing you great joy and companionship.
Fellow Animal Lover,
Mandy Psiaki

Hi!
I’m writing to update you on the success of “Tulip”! We’ve named her Cammy, which is short for Cammy-Flage (since her colors look like the new digital camoflage the army wears) She and Buster are in love...they play together, sleep together and eat together. We’re so glad they get along soo well! She learned how to use her kitty door into the garage where her litterbox is within the first couple days we had her. She is adjusting really well to her new home. We will be in at the end of September to have her spayed, see you then!

Here's some pics of Jackson (you knew him at G.T.) the brindle shepherd/dane mix we adopted about a month ago.
Jackson is a GREAT DOG! Healthy, happy, well behaved (usually....). He has a hearty appetite (particularly for Scooby Doo treats at the drive thru "Joe to Go" coffee house), is great with everybody he meets on long walks through the parks and squares. And he loves ridin' round in his red pickup truck and attacking lawn sprinklers.
Thanks again for helping us give a great dog a great home!

I was reading the success stories so I thought I'd send mine in, I can send some pictures if you 'd like as well!
After visiting weekly I finally got a call last March about a Spaniel mix that had been brought in. I fell in love with Gina and adopted her as soon as I could!
I could not have asked for a more perfect companion. She has all the energy and love in the world. Though she had some issues with running away from people when she got the chance, she couldn't be better about it now. Even when the door is wide open she just wags her tail and looks at me. She still loves to explore safely on her walks, but I think her favorite thing to do is to meet new doggy friends to play with. Especially puppies!
Thank you to everyone who took care of her during her stay at the shelter. I am so glad that she was rescued from Animal Control or I never would have met her. I can't even imagine my life without her!

Hello friends,
We want to thank you all for helping to bring us and Lady together. Lady is settling in just fine. We are sometimes surprised by Lady's incredible intuitiveness and intelligence. She accompanied Mom and us to Dad's grave, and when getting ready to leave Lady very gently embraced Mom around the waist and simply laid her head on Mom's chest. Mom must have just needed that hug.
We have only found out about two fears Lady has: campfires and loud noises such as fireworks and thunder. Lady worked out her fear of fire with the help of hotdogs before we took her camping with us in Freeport, Maine. (Hotdogs seem to make the world a better place for Lady!) She was ready to go camping after very slowly getting her used to tiny fires and gradually building up. Camping was a grand adventure for her: She enjoyed sleeping snuggled up in a tent with us, hiked the forest, had her first taste of seaweed in the Casco Bay, and found many new d | | | | | |
